PRISON MINISTRY
We often associate memorable events with significant occasions in our lives. You can often remember where you where when “so-and-so” happened; moon landing, sorrowful assassinations, triumphs or tragedy. The Prison Ministry of St. John Praise and Worship Center was birthed at the same time as the Million Man March called by Louis Farrakhan of NOI fame.
At a time when he was saying some truths, the Lord placed the need to get the Gospel to the many men lodged at the newly erected Tamms Correctional Center. For the following 15 years, members of the Prison Ministry Team have taken the Gospel to those incarcerated at the Center.
Each service included inspirational songs from choir members, a timely message from our Pastor and other associate ministers. On the third Sunday of each month, all who attended had opportunity to request prayers for their families and personal concerns, and feel the love of Jesus through their brothers and sisters in Christ.
Over the years many souls were led to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, re-dedicate their lives and reunite with the Body of Christ.
The faithfulness of the Team proved to be valuable in reaching men who society often deemed unreach-able, unteachable and unlovable. Is there anything too hard for God?
The Prison Ministry is expanding by learning how to assist men and women as they return to our community with effective re-entry and recovery support programs.
That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. JOHN 3: 15-16
